Heavy Vehicle Certification

The primary purpose of Heavy Vehicle Certification is to ensure that a new, modified, or repaired vehicle is safe and in compliance with the legal requirements for operation on New Zealand roads. Inspecting Oganisations and Heavy Vehicle Specialist Certifiers are appointed by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency to ensure heavy vehicles remain safe to use after modification and/or repair. This includes making technical assessments, producing engineering designs for vehicles, components, like towing connections, load anchorages or chassis modifications.

Transport By Design Limited

Transport by Design Limited is an appointed Inspecting Organisation specializing in Heavy Vehicle Certification, Design and Compliance in the Taranaki Region. Transport by Design Limited is a local company available to the general public and commercial transport operators alike, to oversee Heavy Vehicle Certification requirements.

LT400 Certification

An LT400 is the certification document that a Heavy Vehicle Specialist Certifier (HVSC) issues upon completion of work. The scope of certification required varies from new heavy vehicle builds, modifications / repairs to currently registered heavy vehicles and recertification of expired components attached to heavy vehicles. One LT400 is required for each aspect of the vehicle that needs to be certified or recertified.

New Design, Certification and Recertification

  • Load Anchorages: Tie Rails, Chain slots, Stock Crate J-Hooks, Twistlock Beams, Deck Rings and Custom Secure Points.
  • Towing Connections: Drawbeams, Drawbars, Toweye Replacement, Light Towbars, Fifth wheels, Kingpins and Skid Plates.
  • Chassis: Chassis Strength, Loading assessments, Tipping Assembly Installation, Crane Installations, Rear Overhang Modifications, Wheelbase Modification, Rust Removal and Repair.
